I’ve always been interested in photographic images that, either because of the way they were shot or the way they’ve been presented, cause the viewer to question what it is they are seeing. An ordinary, leafless tree evolves into a textured design with depth and movement which changes as the viewer moves closer.
The series Road Trip was created using photographs taken from the passenger seat of a car while driving from Palm Springs to Los Angeles one afternoon in December.
The images were electronically duplicated, flipped and/or rotated to create the pieces in this collection. I limited myself to the following rules: one image per piece, no cropping or post-processing of the original image, and the only color manipulation can be from applied blending modes over an occasional color block.
Beauty in these otherwise unremarkable photographs comes from symmetry and repetition, and one can’t help but ask, “What am I looking at?”
